2. What data the app processes
- From the chest strap: the ECG signal (only during the live view and a recording), heart rate, beat-to-beat intervals (RR), skin contact, battery level and – during a recording – the values of the accelerometer, from which one movement value per second is derived.
- From you: markers and notes on recordings and – only if you enter them – name and date of birth for the header of the PDF report.
- Settings: e.g. gain, display filter and the paired strap.
Recordings and notes may be health data within the meaning of Art. 9 GDPR. The app does not analyse the signal and does not provide a diagnosis.
3. Where the data is stored
All data is stored and processed only locally in a database on your iPhone. The database and the export folder are excluded from iCloud and device backups. The app does not transmit any data to us or to third parties, has no user account and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking services. We have no access to your data.
4. Permissions
- Bluetooth: to connect to your chest strap – also in the background while a recording is running.
- Notifications: to let you know when the strap disconnects during a recording. Notifications are scheduled on the device; there are no push notifications via a server.
- Live Activity: shows the duration and heart rate of a recording on the Lock Screen. It is updated locally on the device.
- Apple Health (optional, off by default): write access for heart rate only. The app does not read anything from Apple Health.
You can change permissions at any time in the iOS Settings.
5. Export, sharing and Apple Health
Recordings only leave your iPhone when you start an export yourself (PDF, CSV, heart rate, RR or EDF) and pass the file on, e.g. by email, AirDrop or to the Files app. You can also send a PDF straight to an AirPrint printer. Exported files stay in the “ECG Recorder › Export” folder of the Files app on your iPhone until you delete them there; that folder is excluded from backups as well. The app itself sends nothing. Whoever you pass the file to is responsible for its further processing.
Apple Health: In the app settings you can allow the heart rate of a recording to be written to Apple Health when the recording ends (one value every 10 seconds). This feature is off by default and only becomes active after you explicitly grant permission in Apple’s Health dialog. The app does not read any data from Apple Health, writes neither the ECG signal nor sample recordings to it, and does not use Health data for advertising or analysis. Apple Health is stored on your device; you decide in the iOS settings which data is synced to iCloud. You can withdraw the permission at any time under “Settings › Privacy & Security › Health” and delete written values in the Health app.
6. Retention and deletion
Recordings are kept until you delete them in the app; exported files until you delete them in the Files app. When you delete the app, iOS removes all locally stored data including the exports.
7. App Store
The app is distributed via Apple’s App Store. For downloads, updates and any purchases, Apple processes data under its own privacy policy. If you have agreed in iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple provides us with aggregated statistics and crash reports that are not linked to you.
8. Website and contact
For this website and contact by email, the sections “Die Website” and “Kontaktformular und E-Mail” of the privacy policy of pulseapp.fitness (in German) apply.
9. Your rights
Where we process personal data about you, you have the right of access, rectification and erasure (Art. 15–17 GDPR), restriction of processing and data portability (Art. 18, 20), objection (Art. 21) and to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77). As the app data is only on your device, you can view and delete it there yourself.
10. Changes
If the app changes, we will update this policy. The version published here applies.
